REDUCING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Although creating a sustainable business is about more than the environment, looking after our planet and its resources is vital to ensure we all leave things in better shape than how we found them. Our goals to help the environment are many:

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Here’s our initiatives to reduce our environmental impact. In all cases, you can find out how we’re doing in our sustainability report

  • • Reduce our carbon footprint.
  • • Reduce waste. In 2019 we recycled 1,168 tons of cardboard and 46 tons of plastic.
  • • Reduce packaging – for example, all of our home delivery packaging is made from recycled cardboard.
  • • Plastic hanger recycling – in Germany and The Netherlands this is at 100%.
  • • Recycle clothing – for example, our really popular ‘Bring Sexy Back’ campaigns.
  • • Help others use waste to help others. A great example is the CEMBA Bangladesh mattress project.
  • • Energy management – for example maximising the use of energy-saving LED lighting.
  • • Logistics and transportation – for example optimising the loading of wagons and rote planning to reduce travel journeys.

REDUCING SINGLE-USE PLASTIC

Our commitment to reducing single-use plastic involves regular initiatives to review operations across our business. In 2019 we identified many areas where the use of plastic could be reduced, including the amount of it used in the packing of products being shipped to stores. We encourage everyone to look for ways to reduce single-use plastic.

We also encourage customers to use a Bag For Life. When a plastic bag is requested, in most countries we will charge for it and the proceeds are donated to relevant charities.
