A ‘NEWLIFE’ FROM LANDFILL – BUT HOW MUCH?
Many of our items that would otherwise be sent to landfill are donated to Newlife. In 2019 we donated 4,022 cartons of product, helping the planet by decreasing the amount of waste, recycling as much as possible and selling items for a great cause.
All items are saved from landfill where possible, and any items unable to be sold are recycled for raw material reclamation, to honour the energy that has gone into making each product in the first place, which is great for the planet, and great for disabled children.
Newlife also gives information on our faulty or returned items to help us to reduce and improve our products to prevent future waste.
A ‘NEWLIFE’ FOR AAISHA
Six-year-old Aaisha was born with a birth defect where areas of her brain are either abnormal or missing. This condition has caused epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, and delays in her development, meaning she is unable to walk or talk. Aaisha has stiff and tight muscles in her limbs and had surgery on her hips and pelvis to help with this.
Aaisha was using a standard car seat which didn’t properly support her posture and hold her head up. While travelling in the car her head would fall forward or bang against the sides of the seat, hurting her teeth and lips and she would become upset. Without a specialist car seat to hold her in the right position Aaisha wouldn’t be able to travel safely with her family.
To make matters worse, the family’s local statutory and health services couldn’t provide a specialist car seat, so her family turned to Newlife for help. Newlife provided a specialist car seat through their equipment grants service. Now it is a lot easier and safer for Aaisha and her family to travel out into the community, to school, appointments and for activities together.
Aaisha’s mum Farhana said: “The specialist car seat from Newlife has been an absolute godsend.”
